Why do I love road trips?

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

Who doesn't want to feel the breeze embracing their faces and passing through their hair, almost making them feel like their life is in a movie scene?

I've met tons and tons of people who love 'Zindagi na milegi dobara' and 'yeh jawani hai deewani'. I myself adore these movies. A lot.

But why do we love these?

Because they blurted out their lessons in our ears and our hearts so loud that we still remember them.

What were those lessons?

Don’t get so involved in making a career that you forget to live!

Appreciate what you've got before they fly away forever and explore the gifts this world has given us. But that doesn't mean you'll spend your whole life exploring.

All I want to tell you is that don't just sit there on the couch watching Ronnie and Barty and dreaming about the adventures they do. If you can make it happen now, then make it happen.

Many of us dream of traveling and exploring new things in life, and Rohan and Bharti captured those moments that we always wanted to feel through their lenses.

Soul trails is just one of their many amazing series that starts a fire in all of us.

Here's the link : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZv242vK254TFxpmGueYZPy_xG5PC0Dn9

No matter how many times I watch this series, I never get enough of it. This is the best mood lifter for all those travel freaks out there.

Now, let's play a game.

Close your eyes after reading what I am going to ask you to do and feel whatever may flood in you.

Imagine that you are seeing the world through a sunroof.

The cold wind is hitting your face, but it isn't hurting you.

You feel calm and wonder what life is.

And then you start appreciating the snow covered mountains which have surrounded your vehicle as if they are welcoming you into their world.

You look up and feel the warm and mellow rays of the sun, embracing your face through the sky so clear, that you've never seen before.

And then you close your eyes and feel it's warmth while listening to the playlist you made especially for this journey.

Now do it.

How was it?

Did you feel infinite?

It's obvious that all of you imagined different scenarios where the mountains had a different shape, the roads had different smoothness and imagining these made you feel and think about the kind of destination you love the most.

You can indeed find it, if you try.

Flying to a destination may save your time, but it won't let you appreciate the beauty of the journey.

Even the railways tracks.

Sitting by the window of the train, you can see the beauty out there, but you can't stop and feel it. It's almost like life is just going with its fast pace and we are not stopping even for a moment to appreciate it.

Here are the things I feel, that make me fall in love with covering my journey on tarmac.

I am the one who chooses where to stop, not the train driver or the pilot.

Yes, we are the masters of our own trip here. If you are driving along and you see a bunch of horses across the road, or anything that catches your eye, guess what? You can stop and check it out because you have your own time.

While road tripping, you have the freedom of stopping wherever you want, and living in whichever moment you choose.

You get to know about the life behind those road stands and the way people find their happiness without the materialistic pleasures.

Living in these kinds of slums may be a difficult job for you because you've lived a life on a different level than them, but it makes you realise one thing when you step inside these -- People can be happy with whatever they get.

You also learn the traditions they follow and the way they cook their food.

Afterall, every house, big or small, conserves a tradition that makes life more enjoyable and important.

P.S. - they also have the best way to cook delicious food.

If I could change one thing in this world, then that would be the mindset of the people passing by without appreciating the road stands.

That man in worn out attire and the woman who has no money to buy the bangles she always wanted to wear, work days and even under the stars to collect the 'paper and the metal' to feed their beautiful families.

Next time, when you pass by them, don't forget to drop some love and purchase even the smallest of things crafted by their hard work.

Your need for those objects isn't bigger than those happy faces.

No one can take you to a place where you don't want to eat.

Many travelling companies take you to the restaurants especially made for tourists. But, that isn't fun at all. Eating a full meal across the road you are on, and watching the trucks and vehicles go by is the real deal here. It's the true bliss.

While sitting in a dhabha you'll realise that the restaurant beside you, isn't a part of your journey but the warm touch of a kulhad filled with tea in your gelid hand.

By sitting on that plastic chair, you gradually feel peaceful.

You feel zero embarrassment while listening to your favourite playlist without earphones.

The excitement you get while creating a playlist filled with all the songs of your choice be it punk or soft rock is the best feeling you get while on a road trip.

You laugh, you shout and you even cry without receiving anyone's judgmental eyes.

But that's only when you are hitting the roads alone.

With people you love, the fun increases by a mark. You sing along with them, and you even cry out loud with them.

Cry?

Well yeah, you don't go on a journey with people who can't cry when you shed tears.

It clears your mind.

While on a solo road trip, you may just be startled at how the roads can clear your head and help you to relax.

That straight road ahead of you not only makes you see the direction of your path but also to your goals.

The beauty around you is next to Nirvana.

Whilst flying, as I've already said, is a quick and efficient way to travel, but you certainly don't get the same level of scenery from the sky.

You get to see the most beautiful and unexpected sites, which were not even on your itinerary or your list of destinations.

It's the small shops, waterfalls, beautiful trees, and houses that complete the trip.

As you already know,

It's all about the journey not the destination.

It's the perfect time to get along.

For this I'd rather choose the time when the moon shows its beauty.

The quiet and empty road gets filled with those little giggles and words that makes everything worth handling the steering wheel for.

Even the day time suites good to some people.

In fact, any time of the day is best for you and your family or friends to get along. The scenery around your car or the flashes of yellow-orange streetlights just adds a touch of magic in your conversations.

So there you have it, these are the reasons why I love road trips.

If you've been dreaming to make it happen then grab your favourite people and hit the tarmac.

It'll be magical.

And don't forget to stop by these road stands awaiting for you to fill their air with warm smiles.
